. 2001 Chicago Mackinac Race Updates
First Boats Now Finished

Larry Ellison’s yacht Sayonara, a Farr Maxi 80 out of St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco earned First-to-Finish honors for the PHRF division in the 94th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by LEXUS as it crossed the finish line at 22:24:37 (CST) on July 15.

Failure to exhibit a sailboard, a reflective board showing its sail number may cost the boat a 15-minute penalty.

The second boat across the line was Steven Murray’s Decision, an Andrews 70 out of Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans at 23:36:25.

The overall winner of the race will be decided after the adjusted times, accounting for handicaps and penalties, become available from the scoring committee early this afternoon.

Winds began picking up around Point Betsie late last night and good winds, and by 9:15 a.m.,  28 of the 295 yachts had crossed the finish line.

Most of the Great Lakes 70 class also has crossed the finish line, including record holder Dick Jenning’s yacht Pied Piper at 2:24:46 on July 16, which was edged out by 22 seconds by Bill Alcott's Equation of Bayview Yacht Club, which crossed at 2:24:22.

The first of the Farr40 class, Steven Mash’s Hot Lips out of Chicago Yacht Club, is now within a mile of the finish line.
