Since the Chicago Yacht Club's race to Mackinac Island is an offshore race, it is not usually considered a spectator sport. But there are plenty of opportunities for those interested in the race. A great place to view the sea of colorful sails is from the start in Chicago or the finish at Mackinac. However, every year, people follow the race on shore as they travel along Michigan's northern Lake Michigan coastline to catch glimpses of the fleet.
Great Places to Watch the Boats From Shore:
The eastern shore of Lake Michigan is dotted with wonderful places to see the boats from shore. It is a great way to spend a weekend and you may just be amazed by the beautiful places you will get to visit along the way.

Ludington, Michigan
Muskegon, Michigan
This is our home town and home of many Chicago to Mackinac racers. While there is not a lot of race traffic within visual range, it is one of the southern most locations where sightings can happen.
